Visa and Stay

Note
  • If a foreigner stays more than 90 days in Korea, he/she must receive the Alien Registration Card. If he/she does not receive it within 90 days, he/she is subject to be fined.
  • If you do not extend the Alien Registration Card before the duration of stay expires, you are subject to be fined. If 14 days have passed after expiration, you lose eligibility to stay in Korea.
  • It may take longer to receive the Alien Registration Card depending on the circumstances of the competent office of Korea Immigration Service.
  • If you leave Korea before the Alien Registration Card is issued, you are not allowed to enter the country again.

Procedure
Make a reservation with the competent office of Korea Immigration Service Apply for a certificate of enrollment/payment Receive the certificate from the DIKL Administrative Office (501, Hyehwagwan) Visit the competent office of Korea Immigration Service on the reservation date and submit documents required for a new Alien Registration Card Visit the competent office of Korea Immigration Service on the designated date and register fingerprints Visit the competent office of Korea Immigration Service on the designated date and receive the Alien Registration Card.

※ For new issuance, the fingerprint registration is required. Therefore, you must visit the competent office of Korea Immigration Service in person and receive the card.

University dormitory (1) Certificate of dormitory residence The seal of the president of the university or dormitory is required.
House under the applicant’s name (2) Standard lease agreement If the agreement is not the standard form, it must include the accurate address, the information and name of the landlord and tenant, and the period of residence.
Gosiwon, boarding house (hasuk), AirBnB, share house, guest house (1) Certificate of accommodation provision or occupancy
(2) Certificate of business registration of the accommodation provider (to conform the address)
(3) Receipts of rent (to conform the period of residence)
• The address manually written on the certificate of accommodation provision must match that on the certificate of business registration.
• Specify the first date of occupancy when submitting the certificate of occupancy.
• Provide receipts for rent paid in cash or transfer details for rent paid through bank transfer (for AirBnB, a printout from the receipt page can be submitted).
House under others’ name (1) Certificate of accommodation provision
(2) Front and back pages of the certificate of registration of the accommodation provider
(3) Real estate agreement under the name of the accommodation provider
• Specify the start date of residence on the certificate of accommodation provision.
• The address on the back page of the certificate of registration of the accommodation provider must match that on the certificate of accommodation provision.
• If there is a mismatch, additionally submit the real estate agreement which can prove the address.
Note
※ Make sure to make a reservation with Korea Immigration Service at least 1 day before your visit.
※ If you fail to arrive at the scheduled time, you will have to make a new appointment.
※ Currently, it is difficult to make a reservation with Korea Immigration Service due to COVID-19. If you fail to make a reservation with Korea Immigration Service, freshmen must individually visit the competent office of Korea Immigration Service in 90 days upon their date of arrival at Korea and receive an Alien Registration Card.
